The Project

To publicize the launch of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s 2011 Great Daffodil Appeal, our team lit the columns of the National Monument on Calton Hill and Queen Victoria’s statue on the Royal Scottish Academy. The project highlights our expertise at this kind of work, gained on projects such as Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

The brief was to illuminate the two monuments in the Marie Curie brand colour. We responded with a well-produced lighting scheme that created a dramatic impact and illuminated both buildings on cue at exactly the same time. To keep power consumption down we used ROBE CitySkape LED fixtures.

The Edinburgh illuminations were a key part of a national ‘Switch On’ for Marie Curie. This saw the illumination of iconic landmarks throughout the country: from Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower to Scotland’s Inverness Castle, famous places across the UK got the yellow treatment.

Key Challenges

One technical challenge was getting a good colour match for Marie Curie’s yellow. We also only had a short time to setup our equipment, despite this everything went without a hitch.
