Starfields

The Project

Starfields is an event produced by the committee of FS, which sees Lower College Lawn transformed for the headline event in the St Andrews Fresher’s Calendar.  Each year the event hosts the biggest names in house and electronic music while raising money to support charities across the country.  In 2018 Starfields and FS are working towards raising money and awareness for their charitable partner, Social Bite, a charity dedicated to ending homelessness across Scotland.

Providing full array of production elements including power generation and distribution, stage package, lighting, effects and technical support.  We worked with the year on year sell-out event for a second consecutive year, providing the level of production required for headline names such as Gorgon City and Disciples.

Key Challenges

Lower College Lawn is a site used for numerous marquee events by the University of St Andrews and its societies, however the space brings with it the challenges of a historical building exposed to the elements of the Scottish coast line.  There is no event power supply, so generators by Paragon Power Services are utilized, and our transport partner Stage Hire Scotland expertly maneuvered our artic into the site of the listed building which has extremely limited access.

Careful scheduling with other suppliers on site, with cooperation from the university who sacrifice their already limited parking available for the week makes the logistics possible.

Project Highlights

The focal point of the stage design featured a 5×9 strong matrix rig of our ETC ColorSource PAR, a product new to rental stock for summer 2018.  Eight homogenised LED arrays consisting of ETC’s unique recipe of red, green, blue and lime colour system enable the ColorSource PAR to provide a rich bright light unlike any other LED wash light in its class.  Combining control solutions from our Avolites Sapphire Touch Console and Resolume Arena, via Art-Net we were able to achieve outstanding pixel matrix effects.
